Formally established by 25 founding members, we are a growing and dynamic initiative and community. We bring together diverse business and legal perspectives in Geneva and beyond.
Our mission and our goals
Our mission is to enhance Geneva’s position as a go-to international hub for law and legal services. We work together towards three clear goals:
Promoting and enhancing Geneva as a leading centre for world-class legal services.
Building the profile of Swiss law.
Raising awareness of the legal sector’s critical contribution to social development and economic competitiveness.
Our activities
To achieve our goals we focus on three key areas of activity:
1
Acting as a facilitator and catalyst for collaboration amongst a diverse legal and business community within and beyond Geneva. Core to this is our GILW event.
2
Working to build the capability and attractiveness of Geneva’s courts in commercial dispute handling, including promoting English as a procedural language and building more specialized expertise in commercial matters.
3
Championing Geneva’s legal expertise and Swiss law across the world.
A logo with a meaning
The emblem
At the centre of our logo is Geneva’s iconic Jet d’Eau, representing our strong link with this city known for its rich legal tradition and international influence.
The globe
Surrounding the emblem, the globe reflects our global reach and vision. It symbolises GILA’s commitment to fostering international legal dialogue and cooperation, building bridges between the world’s diverse legal communities.
The scales of justice
This underlines our unwavering dedication to fairness, equality and the rule of law, the fundamental principles that drive our work.
The colours
Our choice of blue aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 emphasising peace, justice and strong institutions. This colour represents our commitment to promoting inclusive and fair legal systems around the world, in support of the UN’s SDGs. Red and yellow recall the colours of the Geneva flag, highlighting our pride in Geneva’s heritage and our local roots.
